Use biological systems to think about waste and want
Futuring Exercise - Radical & Circular is part of "Cabinet of Futures",
which is a Valletta 2018 project as part of the Cultural Programme.
Before we submerge ourselves and drown in our own waste, we could consider and create systems that allow the minimisation of outputs of waste. Or even better, allowing outputs from one system as inputs for another, as the rest of the planetary ecosystems manage things. The connections between Economy and Ecology become clear as complementary and connected ways of thinking about our (extended) households, biomimicry on a systems level becomes important, as investigated by Janine Benyus and others.
This block will use biological systems to think about waste and want, imagining society as a garden or a forest where all the parts have a role to play and there is no such thing as waste, just stuff in the wrong place.
Practical Utopia from Afar
01. Sep 2018, 6PM
Studio Solipsis / 73 Triq il- Kbira Rabat
This is a simple presentation, an evening event for a general but interested public. Presenters will be experts invited from within the local community.
A Practical Utopian Moment
02. Sep 2018, 2-5PM
St Joseph the Worker Parish Centre, 2nd floor, 71 Bwieraq Street Birkirkara
Join us for an introduction to futuring techniques for experiential futures, exploring Time’s Up’s experiences and feel welcome to be guided through some engaging processes allowing all participants to think out loud about possible futures of waste-prevention and recycling.
An Afternoon Spent in a Practical Utopian State of Mind
03. Sep 2018 10AM-5PM
St Joseph the Worker Parish Centre, 2nd floor, 71 Bwieraq Street Birikrkara
Be engaged in developing more in-depth alternative future scenarios in correlation with possible futures of waste-prevention and recycling. Be guided through a process of developing artefacts for experiential futures.
