Be inspired by this day of talks, as you learn how the current generation of makers is not only attempting to augment reality, but going one step further, and improving reality.
Improving Reality explores how artists and designers work with digital technologies to radically re-engineer the world we exist within. During an inspiring day of talks, the current generation of makers will show us how they are not only attempting to augment reality, but are going a step further, and actually trying to improve reality.
Bringing together a range of thinkers from the technology, film, education and art worlds, the conference will showcase innovative, surprising and playful projects, by internationally renowned speakers, including:
Julian Oliver – artist & critical engineer
Matt Adams – Blast Theory
Jamie King – filmmaker and co-founder of VO.DO
Aral Balkan – user experience designer
Matt Hanson – filmmaker, writer & creator of A Swarm of Angels
Alice Taylor – blogger, founder of MakieWorld
Agency of Coney – artists and game-makers
Jose Luis de Vicente – curator, writer and cultural researcher
Adrian Hon – next-generation storyteller and co-founder of Six to Start
Matt Locke – founder of Storythings and former Head of Multiplatform Commissioning at Channel 4.
Time’s Up – artists and makers of playful interactive experiences.
Lizzie Gillett – producer of the hit documentary film, Age of Stupid
Paula Le Dieu – Director of Digital at the BFI
The day will comprise three sessions:
Reality Hacking – How are artists and designers shifting perceptions of place and time, by overlaying increasingly complex and imaginative sedimentary layers onto our lived environment, through the use of augmented reality, 3D printing and other technologies?
Beyond Cinema – How are filmmakers and artists shifting our ideas about what cinema can be, adding cinematic drama to reality, and reinventing the rules by reinterpreting creative processes and traditional business models?
Gaming for Good – How are artists and designers using games and play to morph and shift social and cultural reality?
